What is Reiki Healing?
Reiki (pronounced ‘Ray-Key”) is a simple Japanese energy-balancing method. REI is defined as “Universal Life Giving” and KI is defined as “Energy”. It is used by hundreds of thousands of people all over the world to restore balance in mind, body and spirit. Reiki is a non-invasive therapy, using energy flow from the Reiki practitioner’s hands, when placed gently on or near the recipient.
Where does Reiki originate from?
Reiki was founded by a man called Dr Mikao Usui in the 1900s in Japan. This healing tradition evolved as a result of his research and dedication. Dr Usui taught and practised Reiki and it is thought that he taught over 2,000 students to use Reiki.
About the Reiki healing treatment
Receiving Reiki from a practitioner is a simple process. The client lies on a treatment couch or sits in a chair, the practitioner will gently lay their hands on the body in a series of hand positions on the head, torso and legs, sometimes hovering the hands rather than touching. Each hand position is held for a few minutes. The client remains clothed throughout the session, possibly covered with a blanket. During the treatment energy (called “CHI”) is drawn through the practitioner into the recipient, helping to produce a state of balance. The treatment focuses on the seven main points within the energy field known as Chakras.
What might I experience?
Deep relaxation, heat or cold from the practitioner’s hands, perhaps tingling, a feeling of floating or sinking or perhaps nothing at all. It varies a lot from one person to another. But whatever you feel during your treatment, Reiki is giving you what you need.
